I was searching on Youtube for hacking sims and found Codelink v2, which was just released a couple weeks ago. This is apparently by the same guy who made the original Codelink QB game.

It's a pretty nice game, too. No story, as far as I can tell, so it's just doing missions.

You can check it out here. You have to register to the forum to get the download, though.

WOW! Remembers me a little of uplink, but looks ages better! I gonna try it!

Thanks for this interesting post!

Remember that trouble that I had with uplink forum mods?

I'd like to see that guys' reaction now:

I'm sure they will delete the post. That losers:

I promise to help developing codelink, since I get enough experience in the game.

And, don't worry. I LOVE DSO, I won't leave it. ^^

EDIT: They already deleted my post... I knew :P

I tried it, didn't like it, it lacks the polish of uplink and also seems to perform poorly on my machine (which runs full 3d DirectX games at high resolutions and settings). A tutorial is the very least they could do.

There aren't really many aspects of an actual game in it yet is there... I managed to edit the software server and hardware server (in-game) to give me free stuff *LoL* without the the need for any special software... I don't understand how the logs work though, i couldn't find any logs on the mission servers so i always ended up being caught... It's a nice idea, very buggy at the moment, some aspects of the UI and general functionality of the game is very annoying, like downloading software takes ~10 seconds, loading software into memory takes ~10 seconds, connecting to a server takes ~10 seconds, do anything takes ~10 seconds. Software should only be loaded when you use it, and while you are using it, having the system setup the way it is, is just frustrating for the user...
Anywayz, there's my rant about it, i like the idea, i like the look, i like the fact that it's just like Uplink with a twist of SlaveHack... actually it's more like SlaveHack with an Uplink GUI and additional features.

Saberuneko, you need to make some servers for this with storys like you have on here!

Oh! Heheh I already offered myself at their forums for the task ^^
I'm glad to hear again that you like my missions here. =3

I don't know what's wrong with me, but always I tried a game, I usually spent like 10 times more time patching/developing/improving it than playing the game itself (without counting test times)

I remember the first time that I did that, it was with MetalKnights, a game made in the year 1998? I don't remember... I just started experimenting changing game graphics and sounds, (even unit stats, and tried to do new ones!) I couldn't share my work, on that times, I hadn't got internet, and when I had, the work was lost for years ago (changed of computer twice)

Sorry for the long, off-topic thing... But I felt like telling it.

Yep thas game modding, i do that as much as i can just to understand how games work, usually game scripts... I've modded things like CoD4, Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout3, Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis, and some others... oh and uplink, of course...

To the topic of game modding: Don't we all like to do that.
I mean, we are here, playing DSO, a console-based scripting-hacking-sim.
We code more or less useful stuff.
Any game that has a scripting interface isn't safe from me (Although i fail at designing, I can only code) :D

AAAAAnyways, I think we should get back to topic

I wouldn't put the game down so fast. I mean, the guy doesn't have the time to work on it 24/7, and AFIAK he has a day job as a tattoo artist. Part of me, though, thinks he's just adding some features without any planning.

Codelink has at least inspired me to continue to tweak my own hacking sim. I probably won't ever finish it, though. I have some semblances of a story but no idea on how to piece it together, and I STILL can't decide between a console and a GUI.
